When it comes time for your regular dental check up do you get butterflies in your stomach? Does the thought of the dentist poking around in your mouth make your heart run fast? It doesn’t matter what you’re feeling – all that’s important is that you’re scared of the dentist like a lot of our patients!
When it comes to helping our patients get over their dental anxieties we’re experts. Our entire practice has been based around providing great care without sacrificing your emotional well-being! At Northwest Dental Group we want to surprise you with how easy dental care can be!
Are You Avoiding The Dentist?
About 20 percent of people in the United States are so scared of the dentist that they avoid all but the most essential care. Things like root canals, fillings, and toothache relief are important issues to take care of but there’s an even better method of treatment: regular preventive care!
If fear is keeping you from seeing us for cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventive dental procedures you’re just putting yourself at risk for worse pain and complications later in life! By seeing us at our Rochester dentist office every six months you’re not only saving yourself money down the road you’re also preventing some REAL dental pain!
Helping You Feel Better About Dental Care
Because it’s so essential, and also a bit uncomfortable, we’ve tried hard to make your dental care experience a comfortable, relaxing one. We’ve built a whole bunch of anxiety-relief solutions into our practice!
Of course, the most important part of a good dental visit is the people who are taking care of you. We’ve made it a special goal of ours to only hire people with an excellent sense of compassion, understanding, patience, and great attitudes at our Rochester offices! The right people can go a long way for helping you feel better about your care!
We also take the time to answer any questions you may have about your treatment as well as discussing each thing we’re doing before we do it. A lot of patients feel comfortable knowing exactly what’s going on!
We also offer a wide variety of patient amenities to make your visit better! We have television sets on the ceilings of our exam rooms so you can watch your favorite show or movie, we have music available, and headphones on request! We also offer blankets and pillows to make our dental chairs more comfortable and if you want a nice cup of tea or coffee we can make that happen too!
What Else Can We Offer?
Some patients aren’t going to respond well to dentistry no matter what. Dental anxiety and fear can be so intense that it’s more like a phobia! If you’re the kind of patients who’s terrified to the point where dental care isn’t even feasible then we have the perfect solution: sedation dentistry!
Depending on your level of fear, the length of your procedure, and your personal preference, we can offer several different options to get you through your visit fear-free!
- Nitrous oxide is the most common dental sedation. Delivered through a nose mask that you wear during treatment, nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) will make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease without putting you to sleep!
- Pre-op sedatives are designed to put you in a relaxed state that leaves you alert yet completely calm. They’re delivered here at our office before we start your procedure and once you start feeling okay we’re in business! Pre-op sedation is stronger than nitrous oxide but not as strong as oral sedation.
- Oral sedation is prescribed as a pill before your appointment. You’ll take it shortly before you come in and by the time you sit down you’ll already be feeling the effects! You’ll probably stay awake but some patients have been known to doze off! Oral sedation is stronger, longer-lasting, and also has an amnesic effect so you won’t remember your visit at all!
- IV sedation is a lot like the sedative you get at the hospital to put you into a “twilight” state. You’ll be responsive to commands should we need to speak with you but aside from that you’re out! You won’t remember anything to do with your procedure at all and you’ll just wake up when it’s over!
