I initially, when I went to college, was going to be a pediatrician, and I was lucky enough to get a position in neonatology. So if you had twins born prematurely and one died, I would set you up with another family that had the exact same scenario a year to three years before so that you had somebody who could really understand what you were going through. And I made some of these awesome connections. And in that, got invited to do some genetic research with one of the doctors who was into genetics but also a neonatologist, and got to work on the cleft palate and finding the loci that that was associated with. And that got me initially interested in dentistry.
At the same time, I got into a lab with the HPV vaccine and the creation of that, and the initial clinical trials associated with the HPV vaccine. And through that, I got to know a doctor who worked all the time. And with my personality and my love for art and working with my hands, I just really discovered dentistry was the right fit. So I signed up not knowing how much I was going to like it. The first week I knew, this is the perfect job. I could talk all day and nobody can talk back.
My most recent with U of M, I took a course on (inaudible) and fillers, which I had never done, which was really interesting. Previously to that, I've done, out in New York, implant training, placing implants, restoring implants. I do a lot of CE on pediatrics. It's just an interest of mine and something I like to focus on. A lot of surgery and endo CE. Endo is doing root canals, and so there's a lot of different techniques out there, a lot of tools, and I'm just always trying different things to see what I like the best.
