Dr. Frederick Nolting, DDS

By age 9, Dr. Frederick W. Nolting had decided he wanted to become a dentist. He was fascinated with the instruments and liked that he would get to interact with people. Now, many years later, he enjoys dentistry more than ever.

Dr. Nolting has a passion for high-quality dental care and providing a pleasant patient experience to everyone who visits our Byron family dentist. The warmth and concern for patient comfort he shares is uncommon in modern dentistry.

Dr. Nolting received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He also has a Master of Science in maxillofacial radiology with a minor in speech pathology. Before opening our Byron office, he taught at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. He has lectured on a variety of dental topics and published articles in both dental and international scientific journals.

Dr. Nolting’s other accomplishments include receiving the Minnesota Dental Association Outstanding Service Award, earning his Fourth Dan Black Belt, working with the Park Institute of Tae Kwon Do, and receiving the Boy Scouts of America National Medal of Merit.

Dr. Nolting is committed to keeping up with advances in modern dentistry. That’s why he is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Dental Association, and the Southeast District Dental Society. His commitment to our community goes beyond dentistry, however. Dr. Nolting also is involved in the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, National Disaster Life Support Education Consortium, Olmsted County Disaster Preparedness Commission, and Medical Reserve Corps of Olmsted County.

Dr. Nolting and his wife, Norma, have been married for more than 40 years. They have two boys. Erick is a dentist in Alexandria, MN, and Andrew is the owner of CFM Leads, an internet-based firm. In his spare time, Dr. Nolting loves doting on his granddaughters, participating in practical pistol matches and rimfire matches, biking, and rollerblading.

Common Patient Questions

  • What can you do for me to relieve my dental anxiety?

We offer our Comfort Menu to all of our patients here at Northwest Dental Group to utilize as they would please. This includes comfort pillows, blankets, sunglasses, noise canceling headphones and much more! We also offer three kinds of dental sedation including oral sedation, pre-op sedatives and inhaled sedation.

  • How soon can I bring my child in for their first Exam?

The American Dental Association advises bringing your child to see the dentist before their first birthday, or as soon as their teeth begin coming in. To encourage you not to delay your child’s first appointment, Northwest Dental Group offers free dental exams for children younger than 3. Our team is so efficient that we can often examine a baby along with mom or dad in less than an hour!

  • Am I a good candidate for Dental Implants?

Our team at Northwest Dental Group takes your comfort and oral health seriously, so we perform a detailed evaluation of your mouth before offering dental implants as an option. We might recommend further treatments prior to implants if your gums are infected or damaged, or your bone structure has deteriorated to the point where it won’t provide a stable foundation for your implant.

  • What constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Ongoing bleeding, knocked out tooth, fractured or chipped tooth or a major infection. At Northwest Dental Group, we understand the panic that can set in during a dental emergency, so we work tirelessly to put your mind at ease. With over 50 years of experience, we have helped countless patients recover from dental emergencies and restore their smiles.
