Dr. Katie Post
My father is a Veterinarian, my grandfather was a Veterinarian, my grandfather was actually the State of Iowa’s State Veterinarian so I grew up with my dad working 7 days a week, 24/7 and I love animals. I love spending time with them. I really like that his best friends were his clients and the animals and he can tell you the names of different dogs but maybe not the names of the owners which I think is great. He loved being able to influence different people who were his employees and different people in the community and kind of giving back to the community and that was a big part of it. Part of dentistry over medicine for me was I can do that. For me, ever since I was a little kid, I liked to sketch or draw or work with my hands. I would take lots of pottery classes and things like that so dentistry ended up being a gold mine for me. I can talk all day and nobody can talk back and I can work with my hands. You spend a lot of time when you do these full mouth rehabs. We have people come in and we will just redo their entire smile and a lot of it is shade or color, this angle or just a little turn here, a little thing there. My assistant Kelly will always tell the patient “take a look at this, okay now we are going to have Dr. Post come in and put her magic touch on it” and Kelly will say “I don’t understand how you see that” but once I smooth that off, then it just looks that much better. And I think from a small age that has been a part of me and I just kind of fell into it and it is a perfect fit.
As a child, Dr. Katie Post loved to draw and sketch. Now she uses her creative side doing smile makeovers and other dental procedures that require an artistic touch. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and completed her residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Minnesota Dental Association, and Zumbro Valley Dental Society.
She packs a lot of activities into her free time with her husband, two sons, and daughter, including camping. She cheers on her children in swimming, basketball, tennis, and baseball. Still an artist, she also enjoys quilting, gardening, landscaping, and playing the piano. Tailgating for Iowa and Iowa State athletics is another favorite activity. Go Hawkeyes!
