I was interested in dentistry from my own dentist, but even more so from my own orthodontist. Both were very supportive of me. I grew up in Rochester, and they were encouraging me to investigate that from a young age. By the time I was in eighth grade, I had made my mind up that that's what I wanted to do, which is a little bit unusual.
The things that interest me most about dentistry and still do are the opportunity to be a lifetime student, that there are always new things, new technologies to learn, two different directions that you can go, things that you like to do the most, which may not be the same. That’s one of the great things we have to offer because we all have different interests, and we all have areas that we're really excited about. And that may not be the same for all of us, but they all overlap, and we get our heads together quite often in study groups and share information, and it's been wonderful for me to actually learn from my colleagues and exchange information with them. I feel very fortunate.
For me, lately, in the past decade or so, it's been mainly in the area of implants and then Invisalign as well, but the implants have been exciting. What I've found when you study a certain area is that no matter what it is, it will improve your level of knowledge and your quality of dentistry in all the areas as well. They kind of feed on each other that way, which has really been great.
Dr. Sperling grew up in Rochester, and he is happy to be able to serve his hometown community. He became a dentist because he liked his family dentist as a child and liked the idea of always learning new things.
After graduating from St. Olaf College, he completed his dental education at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Sperling has his mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry and his fellowship in both the International College of Oral Implantologists and the American College of Dentists. He also serves on the Minnesota Board of Dentistry.
Dr. Sperling is certified to administer local anesthetic and CPR, AED, and first aid. He has additional training in OSHA and HIPAA compliance, implant dentistry, and Invisalign.
Since 1983, dentistry has allowed Dr. Sperling to be involved with something that he is passionate about. It is still exciting to him, and he looks forward to the experiences that each new day brings. His favorite part of his job is the people. He works with a wonderful group of people at the office, and his patients are great people, too. He feels that his patients enjoy coming to see him because he and our team always try to treat them like they would treat members of their own family.
Dr. Sperling and his wife are the proud parents of two adult children and four grandchildren. He enjoys skiing, playing tennis, and cycling.
