Dr. Charles Praska, DDS

Dr. Praska grew up in a small farming town in North Dakota. He attended North Dakota State University and earned an undergraduate study in zoology. He spent six years at the University of Minnesota completing his dental studies and orthodontic residency. In July 1990, he joined the practice of Dr. Lloyd Truax, and they spent nearly 20 years practicing together.

Dr. Praska’s orthodontic passion is changing skeletal problems and making room for crowded teeth during growth so patients can be treated on a non-surgical and non-extraction basis. Airway issues are also huge now relating to sleep apnea issues as adults, so early expansion of very narrow maxillaes or upper jaws can be life-changing! The appliances Dr. Praska uses are very specific to our practice and have been honed and developed over the last 25 years. Dr. Praska loves ortho!

Common Patient Questions

  • What can you do for me to relieve my dental anxiety?

We offer our Comfort Menu to all of our patients here at Northwest Dental Group to utilize as they would please. This includes comfort pillows, blankets, sunglasses, noise canceling headphones and much more! We also offer three kinds of dental sedation including oral sedation, pre-op sedatives and inhaled sedation.

  • How soon can I bring my child in for their first Exam?

The American Dental Association advises bringing your child to see the dentist before their first birthday, or as soon as their teeth begin coming in. To encourage you not to delay your child’s first appointment, Northwest Dental Group offers free dental exams for children younger than 3. Our team is so efficient that we can often examine a baby along with mom or dad in less than an hour!

  • Am I a good candidate for Dental Implants?

Our team at Northwest Dental Group takes your comfort and oral health seriously, so we perform a detailed evaluation of your mouth before offering dental implants as an option. We might recommend further treatments prior to implants if your gums are infected or damaged, or your bone structure has deteriorated to the point where it won’t provide a stable foundation for your implant.

  • What constitutes a Dental Emergency?

Ongoing bleeding, knocked out tooth, fractured or chipped tooth or a major infection. At Northwest Dental Group, we understand the panic that can set in during a dental emergency, so we work tirelessly to put your mind at ease. With over 50 years of experience, we have helped countless patients recover from dental emergencies and restore their smiles.
